Lord, Won't You Dance With Me?

This is holy time
We're gathered together to worship you
and love one another
and as we pray
and as we sing
and as we dance
and as we dream
Lord, I ask of you just this one thing...
Won't you dance with me?
Throughout the heavens and below the seas
Up on the mountaintops
Flow with the breeze
Come, carry me
Lord, won't you dance with me?

I found this beautiful quote on the blog Hoosier Musings on the Road to Emmaus by Jane Ellen. It was about a middle-of-the-night prayer that left a piece of this 'praise song' in her head the next morning.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you discover you are praying even though you didn't mean to?

I think those are some of the most heart-felt prayers.

Let us pray. And sing. And dance. And dream. Amen.

Peace,

Mark

Great post for Gaudete Sunday. Rejoicing, I danced through my rooms--living room, dining room and kitchen. Woke up and said, "What am I doing here?" Left behind were dirty dishes.

I am reminded of the five sisters "Dancing at Lughnasa".
Faced with poverty, illness, loss and change-- they danced...beyond thought with open hearts and free spirits. Joy.

Mark-I know you'll ask...Gaudete Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent. The introit or opening hymn of the mass begins with the Lating word "Gaudete" or "rejoice".

Thanks, Lexa.

By the way, did the dishes ever get done?

This is possibly my favorite praise song. I also learned it at camp (Sugar Creek) and at college (Luther). It is simple and beautiful. I find it strange that so many of us know it and yet there is no record of who wrote it or where it came from.
I have also searched in vain for the chords and lyrics or any decent recording of it. It will live in my head and in my heart even if I never hear it performed again.

I learned this song at the New Jersey District Youth Camp when I was young. I have not been able to find an artist or a audio clip of this song, but if anyone checks this, I believe these might be the chords some of you seek:

Greg Evans is not the artist. On Feb. 15, 2015 he replied to a post on https://www.facebook.com/GregEvansMusic/ "I did not write 'Holy Time', so know nothing about it or who wrote it. If it is not part of CCLI, I am not sure how to steer you toward the author. Greg"

Greg Evans is the artist, I have the CD, released in 1992, courtesy of many an eBay search. I never did succeed in finding him or getting permission to use the song and he is not on CCLI.

It should be noted that there is more than one recording artist named Greg Evans, and the one on Facebook is not the one who wrote and recorded the song. The author was based in Birmingham, AL and seemingly in his early-mid 20s at the time of recording, while the Greg Evans Music FB page seems to be run by someone who would have been pushing 40 at that time and has spent his whole life in California.

I actually met Greg in 1993 or 1994 at a church retreat in the Smokey Mountain and I own a copy of the CD. I even enjoyed listening to he play it for the many people that were on that retreat. I was 17 at the time, he was older but was from Georgia or one of the Carolina’s. Can recall for certain. I know I have he address around here some where.

Hey all. Greg Evans is the artist. He currently lives in Tuscaloosa, Al and has been a family friend of ours since before I was born. He did write the song in 1992, so it is likely true that he played it in the Smokey Mountains during a retreat. Camp McDowell and many other church camps play and dance to his song, but not many know quite who wrote it. But now you do! Hope this clears some things up!
